What does a Mixing Valve do?

by David Campbell

A mixing valve has a couple of advantages. First, it allows you to turn the temperature up enough in your water heater to kill off bacteria that can grow in the tank. Turning it up without a mixing valve poses the danger that this increased temperature could result in a scald at the faucet or shower. The valve will automatically ‘mix’ colder water with the hot only as it is leaving the tank.

Secondly, this process gives you more hot water to use because you are pulling out less of the stored water in the tank. It’s equivalent to having a larger tank! I’m seeing these devices more and more in new construction homes. If you are looking for a Realtor in the Kettering, Beavercreek, Bellbrook and surrounding Dayton OH areas, please reach out I’d be glad to help!
