Xenia, OH - City of Hospitality

In 1803, two major decisions were made in regards to our regional history - the admittance of Ohio to the Union and the founding of Xenia. Meaning "hospitality" in Greek, the city gained its name after being put to a vote by area residents. From there, the city began to grow after being selected as the county seat of Greene County. The rest, as many say, is history.

The City
After its founding, the city began to flourish - attracting commerce in the forms of saw mills, pork packing plants and a famed tavern run by the cities first businessman William Beattie. Just 14 years later, the cities denizens petitioned for official incorporation and succeeded, making Xenia a municipal corporation. The next big leap in development came from the arrival of the Little Miami Railroad, stretching the city's influence from the state capital of Columbus and beyond. Tracks have now been converted to the Rails to Trails bike path which so many residents enjoy.  One of the most famous people to be born in the greater area is the Shawnee war chief Tecumseh in 1768 - born on land later taken in by Xenia.
The Housing
Xenia's population hovers around 26,500, just the right size to be accommodating to families with its friendly small town feel. The average price for homes in the area is $195,000 which many buyers that may be priced out of some surrounding cities will find pleasently affordable.  Even the higher end homes with acerage, for the most part tend to fall under the $700,000 price point.  Much of Xenia is rural with nice sized lots.  It's not landlocked up against surrounding cities like some of its neighbors.  You'll be hard pressed to find condos for sale here - there are just a handful.  The city has a multitude of schooling options for students and houses the main branch of the Greene County Public Library. With all of this in mind, you can see why Xenia, OH truly exemplifies southwestern Ohio charm.
