Kettering, OH
City of Innovation
In 1798, A farmer named John Patterson made a decision that would impact the Greater Dayton Area in a way that he himself wouldn’t fully begin to appreciate - and that was building Kettering that started with the area's first log cabin. This simple act would allow the region to grow into the city we know and recognize now, with the help of voters approving the incorporation of the Village of Kettering into Van Buren Township in 1952. It was named after Charles F. Kettering the founder of Dayton Engineering Labratories Company (DELCO) and the inventor of the automotive starter.  In the relatively short period since its official recognition as a city in 1956, the area now houses just over 55,000 citizens and counting.

The City

Now that we know about the region's history, what makes Kettering so special? For starters, it’s only five miles south of downtown Dayton, so only a short drive away from the exciting activities hosted in the larger metropolitan center. It is also Dayton's largest suburb.  The school district is one of the top in the state and has garnered national attention as an excellent center of learning. The city's income tax is only 2.25% of income earned, giving citizens a comfortable rate to operate with.
The Housing
When it comes to housing, Kettering has a diverse selection of housing options for all budgets.  From the occasional single bedroom home well under 100k to some large West Kettering homes around the million dollar mark.  You'll find precious little new construction here since the city was built-out years ago. The median housing stock age is about 57 years old.  Kettering offers a chance to join a community that prides itself on philanthropic innovation.
