OSB or Dryline Sheathing for your Home?

by David Campbell

The first time I saw this on a house I thought it was a cheap shortcut. It is cheaper and it does take less time to install than OSB and the required house wrap but it does meet code and it does work. It’s ultra thin lightweight structural sheathing approved as a direct replacement for OSB. It provides a water-resistive barrier that eliminates the need for house wraps like Tyvek or Typar.

It also serves as an air barrier and draft stop material again taking the place of house wraps which  require extra labor to install over traditional OSB. Dryline replaces them both in one application. It’s made of 98% recycled materials to top it all off.

Next time you see this shiny material on a home being built you’ll know exactly what it is.
