Dayton, OH: Home of the First Speeding Ticket

Dayton, Ohio is known for a lot of firsts but I bet you didn’t know we were the first to get a speeding ticket! Picture this - Dayton, Ohio and the year is 1904. You hear the sound of a car engine coming down West Third Street in downtown Dayton. It’s daredevil Harry Myers going 12 miles of the speed limit.  

This minor infraction spawns the inaugural speeding ticket and marks an unexpected milestone in Dayton’s history and becomes a slice of our heritage.
